Ha Noi, Viet Nam’s capital, is deservedly thought of as one of the world’s most attractive and interesting cities. It first became the capital of Viet Nam in 1010, and though in 1802 the nation’s capital moved to Hue under the Nguyen Dynasty, the city flourished after the French took control in 1888. In 1954, after the French departed, Ha Noi was declared Viet Nam’s capital once again. The remnants of more than 1,000 years of history are still visible here, with that of the last few hundred years marvellously preserved.
